According to the principles of Feng Shui, a Chinese philosophical system that aims to harmonize humans and their environment in order for the qi to move freely around the home, there must be a balance between the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each of these elements evokes a different mood, and must co-exist with one another through symmetry. When Qi is balanced, Feng Shui guarantees health and good fortune to all occupants. _________________________________________________________________________
A combination of wood and metal is an important part of Feng Shui. Wood harnesses the power of creativity while representing qualities such as growth, birth, strength, flexibility and intuition. The metal brings personal characteristics such as organization, focus and analytical capabilities. Too much of one element can point to your ability to make decisions, develop new ideas and experience empathy for others. On the other hand, too many other elements can point to another feature in you, mixing these elements can bring balance. Let's take a look at the bedroom, for example. Common elements, such as night lamps or ceiling lamps, can directly affect the energy of space. Obviously pairs is key. Only one night lamp, for example, is symbolic of loneliness, and can disrupt the yin and yang balance. Instead, an evenly balanced bed with chests and lamps creates symmetry allowing qi to flow evenly throughout the space. And using dressers in lamps of equal size represents equality in a relationship. This balance equals harmony in the bedroom. Who wouldn't want that?
